Are You Spreading Light or Darkness to the World?

Since feeling my life nearly slip away almost 3 years ago from a massive heart attack, I treat each day as the gift it is and I strive every day to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday.

Some days I do better than others.

What I don’t do is consciously hold my past against myself or begrudge myself of mis-steps and transgressions I have made in the past. (And, like most people, some of them were real doozies!)

I also don’t do that with other people. What I did or what you did in the past should be left in the past where it belongs, especially if a person has made a sincere effort to fix it in some way. (Blatant criminal action notwithstanding.)

I believe this because I believe we are all on a spiritual journey.

Books like the Bible, Angels Within Us, Practical Spirituality, The Law of Light, The Abundance Book and many others help guide my path and have given me answers I have been seeking my entire life. (I have a host of other recommendations if you are so inclined to make the request.)

Funny how those answers were in me all along. 😉

Here’s where I struggle… (maybe you can relate?)

I used to say “I hate people” but what I have come to understand is I love people so much that it brings me physical discomfort to see them not living up to their potential. In the past, I translated that to “hate”. I now know it was the deepest of love, both being varying degrees on a scale and not opposites as I once treated them.

Every day I see people who identify themselves as “high vibe” or “spiritually enlightened” yet instead of spreading light and love, they spread fear, anxiety, loathing, and yes, even hate. They hold conscious grudges against themselves and other people for things that they (themselves or the other people) did far into the past.

Look, we don’t know the struggles or fights someone else has gone through. We don’t know the environmental factors that allowed the behavior. We also don’t know the atonement or reconciliation they have made for these past transgressions they continue to hold the others accountable for.

I wonder if these accusers could stand up to such scrutiny?

I have seen what happens…

These same people lose their mind when anyone criticizes them, no matter how small. All it takes is one hater, one bad email or post or tweet to ruin their day/week/month or cause them to go on an all-out rampage against that person.

These same people can’t even handle a single negative post about themselves, and they feel they are qualified to tell someone else how they should behave – both now and over 10 years ago?

Is that enlightenment? Is that high vibe?

It’s no wonder so many people see this and call bullshit.

Who could blame them?

Now, how we each live is our choice so I’m not going to be so bold as to make any specific judgments about how any of us should live and behave within the context provided above.

But, if those of us seeking to live at a higher vibration really want to be of service to those around us, shouldn’t we reflect on these words and thoughts and see if we are spreading light or darkness?

I know I do daily.

Some days I do better than others.
